Craftsmanship is a journey. Mine has started long ago in multiple ways:

  • I had my first computer at 15, installed my first Linux distribution at 16 (1999), learnt how to program, graduated in computer science engineering and became a backend then devops software engineer.

  • My strongest subject has always been Physics. I have always searched to understand how our world works, from infinitesimally small to the limit of our universe. Discovering quantum physics during my first year of undergraduate was a life changing event. Similarly, the first time I have seen Jupiter through the eyepiece of my telescope was another.

  • As a kid, from a Mediterranean immigrant family, I have learnt thanks to my grandmother the importance of good food, home style cooking. In Japan, missing my dear French camembert, I have started to learn how I could make it myself. Back to Europe, I missed the subtle tastes of authentic Japanese fermented food. I have learnt how to make them too.

This blog is just a travel notebook through all these topics as I continue my journeys. I really feel that at 42, I have only scratched the surface. As a very late diagnosed ADHDer, this is also therapeutic helping me to set personal objectives. The name Modern shokunin (modern craftsman) embodies both traditional and modern craftsmanhip.

What can you expect to find here ?

  • My journey in the DevOps/MLOps/AI fields.
  • My quantum physics foundation work
  • My personal projects in quantum computing and how I integrate aspects from my software engineering background.
  • Fermentation stories, experiments and recipes, especially Japanese fermentation.
